There’s a complexity balance that needs to be figured out. We don’t want the EXP system to be so granular that it isn’t fun. Yet it should still be comprehensive enough that there are multiple ways to level up.

These concepts are subject to change. We ask about every EXP rule: Does this make the club more fun and compelling? If not, it’ll get changed.

Here are some broad EXP categories that can earn members EXP:

  • Presence

  • Contribution

  • Growth

  • Performance

EXP bonuses can be assigned at random too from the Frog, or can be earned when multiple people vouch for another. The EXP does not have to be gained through only Moat-related activities. Although there is more EXP to be gained that way.

Presence

This is sort of an ‘attendance’ category. Attending ultimate-related things, Moat or otherwise, will earn players EXP. This includes participating in leagues, practices, or pickup.

It also takes into account the quality of presence. Are players being a consistently positive presence? Showing good spirit in tense moments? Not being a douche? Do your peers like you?

Contribution

Are members helping to improve the community? These can be small things like setting up cones/sidelines at pickups. Or more complex ordeals like organizing away-team logistics.

Volunteering at youth clinics or community events earn big EXP too.

Growth

Are players trying out new roles on and off the field? Are players receptive of constructive feedback? And how well can they apply it?

Asking thoughtful questions, strategizing new defensive and offensive schemes, discussing strategy, etc..

Performance

This category may be the most intuitive way to gain EXP. Are players/members playing the game in a healthy and competitive way?

This doesn’t have to mean competing at competitive tournaments; it can also mean taking on a challenging match-up. Are players competing with integrity and sportsmanship?

Reporting EXP

We don’t want reporting EXP to feel like “logging hours”. Members should feel like this is occasional and lightweight. Currently, the system in place is a Google Form that members can see once they’re assigned a log-in. There they can see the actual numbers behind how much EXP each action earns.

Players are given the trust to accurately report their own EXP once per month. Oracles will give EXP as needed as well.
